Why You Should Dress in One Color

In laymen terms, Monochromatic is defined as containing or using only one color but in fashion terms, monochromatic means dressing in separates (tops, bottoms, blazers, etc.) of one color. The separates are typically different textures and/or hues of the same color which eludes an overall tonal look.

Monochromatic is often mistaken for “boring”, but there’s nothing boring about this fashion trend. I consider it a blank canvas because you simply build upon its foundation to create a large statement. I Shot With Panda was able to catch beautiful images of my recently sewn Coral, A-Line, Monochromatic Dress with a waterfall hemline. Although I’m not wearing different textures in hues of orange, my dress packs a huge punch. Here, I chose to pair my dress with gold sequined heels, a slew of bracelets on both wrists, several small rings across one hand, and pendant earrings. Sometimes less is more….

Mixing patterns can be challenging, overwhelming, and can look peculiar, but wearing a single shade is simple and is a cleaner approach to creating an outfit. According to shape.com, “When you keep your overall outfit within the same color hue, the outcome can be just as striking as wearing a bold pattern or vivid color.”
