One of my best friends is pregnant and we’re not expecting one baby, but two! Congratulations to my dear friend on the expectancy of her twin boy and girl! In my hasty anticipation of baby Silas and Elena, I went to the fabric store for some inspiration.
During this time of the year fleece is EVERYWHERE and extremely affordable so I picked up 2/3 yard of Hello Kitty and 2/3 yard of Marvel Avengers fleece fabric (yes, they’re my favorite characters LOL). I also purchased two pillow forms measuring 12″ x 16″ for my two pillows. I thought I needed matching thread and pins, but decided to have fringed sides on my pillow instead.

This was my first time attempting a “no-sew” D.I.Y. and I must admit it was fast, fun, and gratifying. I cut the fabric four inches longer on each side. Since I had two pillow forms measuring 12″ x 16″, that meant each fleece fabric was cut in a rectangle measuring 16″ x 20″. I laid the Hello Kitty fabric right side down on top of the lavender fleece (right side up), and I laid the Marvel Avengers fleece right side down on top of the royal blue fleece (right side up); this formed the casing for my two pillows. I cut 1-inch wide and 4-inch long strips along all four sides of each fleece piece. Then, I tied knots on three sides leaving one side untied so I could insert the pillow form. Once my pillow form was inserted into each pillow casing, I then proceeded to tie knots on the remaining side. Here’s the finished product:

My next mission was to tackle a baby blanket. I had one yard of the following print left over from a skirt I recently made myself so I used that and purchased one yard of matching “Minky” fabric. This was perhaps the EASIEST sewing craft/DI.Y. I have ever done! It was basically practicing to sew in a straight line and if you’re considering how to learn how to sew, I highly recommend making a baby blanket as your first project. The materials aren’t expensive and if your blanket doesn’t come out successfully, you’ve only wasted two yards of material and very little money.

My nursery pillows and baby blanket came out PERFECT and I can’t wait to deliver them!
