With each garment I make or alter, I learn something new in this immense sewing world. Of course I’m not perfect and still make sewing mistakes, but I thought the feeling of seeing a client smile and gaze at herself in the mirror while trying on my custom design for her was incomparable, but that was until I saw my design in a photo shoot.

As an apprentice for Andauri Photography, my duties during a photo shoot are typically to hold the bags, fetch lenses, and occasionally direct a shoot. However, with this recent shoot, I was speechless and often found myself unmovable because a beautiful model was rocking my design. My concern was no longer to hold the bag and fetch a different lens, but to make sure that the model’s pose was flattering for my garment, or that her hair and makeup was suitable to promote my pieces.

For those of you that are unaware, my dream career aspiration was to become a stylist. Once I began sewing I would think of how amazing it would be to become a designer for models. Laughingly, I felt like I had become that designer or stylist while watching Paisley pose in my pieces last weekend.

The outfit that my model is wearing was self-drafted (no pattern used) and sewn by yours truly. The material is a polyester and spandex blend. As a matter of fact, the fabric is a new collection by Nicole Miller™ exclusively for Jo Ann Fabrics©. Paisley is wearing a body-con high-waisted pencil skirt and matching crop top. I picked this fabric especially for Paisley because it was vibrant and unique and I decided on this design (body-con and crop top) because it exudes sexiness and confidence, and I knew Paisley could rock it well!

Of course, I had to take advantage of this moment and get in a few shots with Paisley. In the pictures below, I’m rocking my custom, hand-sewn We Cee Style Leopard Faux Fur Vest, white crop top, and vibrant red pants. The vest and crop top were self-drafted and sewn by me; the pants were purchased recently from Express and the shoes are by Dollhouse.
